Delivered by Dr Robyn Cooley (Clinical Psychologist) and Dr Sarah Modi (Educational Psychologist). The session will aim to improve delegates understanding of the autism diagnostic criteria for children and young people. Opportunities to reflect on particular strengths and areas of difficulty, which may impact on different areas such as learning, emotional wellbeing and relationships will also be provided. The next part of the session will focus on the female presentation of autism, including specific differences which may reduce the visibility, and the cost of this in relation to a child or young person’s mental health. Particular attention will be given to helping delegates to better understand masking and exploring how best to foster a more inclusive, understanding and supportive school community for autistic children and young people.
